Saturday, July 31, 1999
It really started on Friday, when lisalisa flew in from Texas and frogylady and her mom flew in from Florida. Lisa went with Starr, and frogylady and mom went with stacy for the afternoon, then Starr, Lisa, frogy and mom went to a bar Friday night.
Saturday was the big day - a few of the faces that made it...
The heat tried to get us down, but we beat it by going to the mall - this is The Great Mall of the Great Plains which is a mile around, has some outlet stores in it. We all met at the Food Court. Starr_Mommie and
Lisa drove down, Stacy followed them with panda, and frogy and her mom had a hotel near me so they came to my house then followed me down. SandyC also came down from Kirksville, her son lives here in the city so she had stayed with him. Valena, a new chatter who you might have seen already, met us there, she lives on the Missouri side of the city. Conmom came over also from the Missouri side. Michelle
and Dorothy were there, they're both here in Olathe, and Vicky was also there,
she lives in the area.
After lunch we wandered around the mall - it's a big rectangle shape so we made the big loop, took us a couple of
hours. Alex
and Cory (Michelle's and mine's 7-year olds) got their picture taken in one of those little
rooms.
We all met back up at the food court, minus Dorothy and conmom, and Vicky and Michelle went to their houses and the rest came over to my house for about 45 minutes. It was quite interesting trying to keep track of 5 other vehicles following me back to my house!
Then we went to dinner at the Kansas Machine Shed at 5:30. Conmom didn't stay for that, but
P1InAMil brought Tay over, we had about 30 people total, adults/kids. We did a group menu thing, and it's all served family style, where they serve turkey and ham on big platters that you pass around, and cole slaw and cottage cheese and sauerkraut and mixed vegetables and cheesy potatoes in big bowls, and all the bread you want.
After dinner we all met up at the Station Casino. We were split up and coming
from all different directions, so we decided on a meeting place, then as a group went
in and got our
boarding passes, at about 9. Frogylady and I got carded!!! Then we stayed until midnight. I had lost $10 quickly on the 5 cent dime and quarter slots, and that was all I'd said I was going to lose <sigh> but then stacy and I went over to the half dollar slots and there were some vacant ones, so I stuck in another $5 bill, and started poking tokens back in. My last 2 tokens got me back 100 tokens!!! So I cashed in my $50 and watched everybody else lose all their money LOL frogy and her mom and I were the last to leave, and I was sitting between them at the quarter slots, they were trying to "get rid of" all their tokens, and they were handing me tokens from both sides to put in the machine in front of me LOL I thought it was pretty fun losing someone else's money - then the last 2 tokens they gave me I won them $20! Which I insisted they cash in instead of losing it all again :)
Tearful goodbyes, and we all went to our homes... already got email from frogy that they're back home in Florida. We will all get our film developed as soon as possible - poor man at the mall didn't know what he was in for when I handed him my camera and asked if he would take a group picture - he said yes and 5 other women jumped up and handed him their cameras too ROFL turned out to be a 3 person job - his wife and daughter helped!!!
